Mr.Mayall's state- ment of damage,
14/3/38
Foreign Office despatch No.66 of 19/4/38
Sir,
With reference to my despatch No.66 of
February 25th regarding damage suffered by
British subjects through the bombing of the
U.S.S. "Panay", I have the honour to transmit
herewith a statement of damage in quintuplicate
filed by Mr. E. Mayell in Singapore, and forwarded
to me by the Foreign Office in despatch No.66
of April 19th, a copy of which is enclosed.
2. Mr. Mayell declares that all his
personal effects on the U.S.S. "Panay" were
lost when the ship sank. The loss he has suffered amounts to U.S.$900.73, equivalent at
$4.94 to £182.6.9 sterling.
3. Since this case has already been
considerably delayed it is being sent separately
in the hope that it may yet be in time to be
considered in conjunction with the other state-
ments of damage suffered through the bombing of
the "Panay".
His Majesty's Ambassador,
British Embassy
SHANGHAI.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your Excellency's most
obedient, humble servant,
(Sa) Herbert Phillips
Consul-General.
